Job Description
Our client, based in Whitby, is seeking 2 experienced and qualified Drilling Mud Engineers to support operations across two land-based drilling rigs. Ongoing Contract, 2 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off Rotation
The successful candidates will have strong experience working with saturated brine solutions and coring operations in evaporite formations. The role will involve advising on and managing suitable drilling fluid systems and mud weights to safely and efficiently drill through salt and evaporite sequences present in the operational area.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, monitor, and optimise drilling fluid systems for onshore drilling operations
• Recommend suitable mud systems and mud weights for drilling through salt and evaporite formations
• Provide technical support for coring operations in evaporite environments
• Maintain drilling fluid properties in accordance with operational and safety requirements
• Monitor drilling performance and make real-time adjustments where required
• Liaise with drilling supervisors, geologists, and rig personnel to support drilling objectives
• Ensure compliance with HSE standards and operational procedures
• Prepare daily mud reports and technical documentation
Desired Qualities/Qualifications
Required Experience & Qualifications
• Proven experience as a Drilling Mud Engineer within onshore drilling operations
• Strong knowledge of saturated brine systems and drilling through salt/evaporite formations
• Experience supporting coring operations in evaporites
• Relevant drilling fluids or mud engineering qualifications/certifications
• Ability to work independently and provide technical recommendations on-site
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable
• Previous experience working on UK land rigs
• Knowledge of drilling optimisation and wellbore stability in salt formations
• Valid offshore/onshore safety certifications (where applicable)
