Job Description

We are recruiting a Chief Mechanic for work in Saudi Arabia.

Chief Mechanic reports directly to the Preventive Maintenance Manager, responsible for performing duties in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment, parts ordering, and administration work of the PMS system.

Key Accountabilities
• Should have previous experience and direct exposure to rig drilling equipment which includes but not limited to: Draw works, Top Drive System, Rotary Tables and Transmission, Crown block, Traveling block, Pneumatic and/or hydraulic winches, Pneumatic and/or hydraulic BOP hoists, Iron Roughneck, CAT heads, Mud pumps, High pressure units (HPU), Mast and Sub-base Raising cylinders, engines, air compressors and air dryers, Solid Control Equipment, Air breathing system.
• Chief Mechanic is responsible of proper maintenance for all mechanical rig equipment as per ADC MSP (Maintenance Standard Procedures).
• Carry the Preventive Maintenance on all mechanical equipment calendar and hours meter basis as per MSP and OEM standards, fixing the reports in SAP system.
• Carry the corrective Maintenance on all mechanical equipment in case a premature failure occurs in the rig equipment, fixing the reports in SAP system and explaining the root cause of failures and how to eliminate such failures and prevent similar failures from reoccurrence.
• Ensure the workplace environment results in targeted retention and stability.
• Should have hands on working experience in drilling equipment with in-depth knowledge of maintenance, repairs and functional testing & commissioning.
• Supervise performing the daily and weekly check lists on all mechanical equipment.
• Ensure sufficiently and effectively the presence of the critical shutdown items in the rig warehouse for performing the Preventive Maintenance and services of all mechanical equipment, ensure through uniform stock & quantity control, that adequate inventory and level of spares is maintained at all times in area of responsibility.
• Maintain up to date records of all hand tools and mechanical equipment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are safe, operational, calibrated and well maintained at all times.
• Responsible of ordering the spare parts required for any Preventive and/or Corrective Maintenance done on the rig.
• Meets maintenance financial standards by providing annual budget information, responsible for preparing and budgeting all scheduled maintenance for all mechanical equipment annually and send the list to be reviewed by The Preventive Maintenance Supervisor and to be approved by the Preventive Maintenance Manager.
• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal codes and regulations.
• Should be able of handling the section effectively with a focus on improvements and knowledge of modern concepts of maintenance used, has the ability to work independently under general supervision of Preventive Maintenance Supervisor, setting proper and safe work example to personnel under his supervision.
• Accurately maintain logbooks, planned maintenance system and spare parts control.
• Keep and maintain current vendor’s catalogue and OEM maintenance and parts list manuals library of all mechanical equipment in area of responsibility.
• To be familiar with all Company procedures, including the Safety Management System, applicable to his duties.
• Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work in accordance with the established safety standards and work practices.
• Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain mechanical equipment, diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
• Able to read and understand pneumatic and hydraulic schematic drawings to troubleshoot the equipment in case of any failure.
• Plans work based on appropriate sequence and procedure.
• Take lead, motivate and guide his respective team in any trouble shooting, minor and major maintenance activities.
• Manage and supervise all personal and professional related issues of the rig mechanical personnel and other assigned personnel.
• Train and support the rig senior mechanics and mechanics under his supervision and run a progress report semi-annually to the Preventive Maintenance Supervisor highlighting the promising personnel and low performers.
• Ensure that PTW system is followed and all safety regulations are adhered to ADC standards.
• Ensure all necessary forms and documentation are completed and approved as required prior to performing the jobs during maintenance activities.
• Provide support for emergency response and ensure all staff is fully trained and competent in emergency response procedures and have the necessary personal protective equipment for their specific duties.
• Assist in commission new facilities as required from time to time in accordance with established standards and procedures.
• Monitor and track work times, work activity schedules, performance and time off of all assigned team members.
• Provide immediate reporting to the Rig Superintendent regarding any HSE incident, accident, and non conformances involving company staff and equipment.
• Prepare, train and encourage all levels of maintenance staff for the opportunity to be promoted.

• Contribute to cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce unnecessary expense

Desired Qualities/Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering University certificate or as a minimum Industrial Mechanics certificate or equivalent, with minimum work exposure to drilling field with at least 3 years minimum drilling field exposure as Chief Mechanic.
• Able to read and understand pneumatic and hydraulic schematic drawings to troubleshoot the equipment in case of any failure.
• Has the ability to work independently under general supervision of Preventive Maintenance Supervisor, setting proper and safe work example to personnel under his supervision.
