Job Description
Our client based in Altens are looking for a Base Mechanic to join their team on a staff basis.
The Base Mechanic works with the Mechanical Supervisor to deliver tasks to the highest standards and provides best-in-class service quality to clients. This role will support all mechanical activities within the Company’s facilities, maintaining and servicing all Company equipment, and recommending innovations to drive continuous improvement. Delivers safe, efficient, and excellent quality work, and provides exceptional service to both internal and external clients. Become familiar with the Company’s equipment and services, ensuring adherence to all safety and management procedures.
The role also supports the Base Electrician and Workshop Foreman in the repair, maintenance and servicing of equipment, pre-job loading out of equipment, back-load inventories, and other workshop activities as directed.
Essential Duties:
• Responsible for the operation, maintenance, modification and repair of Company equipment
• Responsible for the assembly and disassembly of mechanical equipment; systems testing; the calibration of equipment; and environmental screening.
• Assist in the design of new equipment, evaluating and recommending mechanical innovations to drive continuous improvement. Provide the Engineering and/or Project Team with technical mechanical input as required.
• Act upon instructions and deliver upon tasks assigned by the Workshop Foreman Mechanical Supervisor
• Support the Workshop Foreman and other Warehouse personnel with load outs, servicing of equipment and other yard activities as required.
• Liaise with the Workshop Foreman regarding their mechanical requirements in absence of Mechanical Supervisor
• Ensure adherence to the lock out procedure for all mechanical devices.
• Service diesel units to the highest standard within required time-deadlines.
• Co-ordinate and carry out planned and preventative equipment maintenance.
• Provide knowledgeable and effective troubleshooting.
• Assist with effective electronic and hard-copy departmental record-keeping.
• Assist the Mechanical Supervisor in monitoring and evaluating the services and products received from 3rd parties, companies and suppliers.
• Assist the Mechanical Supervisor with materials and supplies ordering in accordance with Company policy, ensuring accurate completion of required documents.
• Utilise e-mail for all business correspondence.
• Actively participate in a team environment.
• Attend other work sites where required.
• Liaise with third party release inspectors prior to units going offshore.
• Keep calibration/safety systems on units up to date and filed accordingly.
• Responsible for the general housekeeping, good order and appearance of the Mechanical Bay.
• Maintain and improve the mechanical workshop bay and stores.
• Support and commit to ongoing training by providing extensive on-the-job training and/or coaching to Trainees, Apprentices or New Hires
Desired Qualities/Qualifications
• Time-served Mechanical qualification with recent and relevant experience is preferred but not essential
• Has extensive practical working experience of Diesel units or has a Diesel Mechanic background.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with all internal and external customers.
• Be computer-literate to Intermediate level in MS Word, Excel and Outlook Email packages.
• A current driving license is preferred (for example for travel between client and company worksites and premises).
• B2 Forklift Truck operation certification preferred, but not essential
• Experience in a similar role in the oil and gas industry is preferred.
• Experience of working with 3GP Systems and knowledge of Zone 2 Compliance advantageous.
